Invest in yourself!
Investing in yourself sends a powerful message to your community, family and tribe. If you want to be inspiring to others start by investing in yourself.
Learn to place a high value on yourself. God values you a great deal. Honor your potential enough to set aside time and energy and it will pay dividends in the year to come. There is a reward that comes from investing in yourself.
You can make decisions today that will greatly impact the whole year.
Here are 10 ways you can invest in yourself:
- Set aside time for yourself early in the morning. A few quiet minutes and cup of coffee or tea. A devotional time can change the energy of your whole day.
- Sleep well, eat well. If you have lots of demands on your day. An extra hour of sleep and eating healthy foods will do more for you than late night Netflix and fast food binge. It’s called beauty sleep for a reason.
- Set smart goals and establish reasonable priorities. The things you value most in life don’t get done when your life is set on cruise control. Be more than intentional about the things that are the most important—in family and business. Smart goals—specific, measurable, attainable, reasonable and timely.
- Educate yourself. Read books & listen to podcasts often. You can listen on your commute but whenever you do it, have a set time. This is your growth investment.
- Make connections. Go to conferences, retreats and attend church regularly. Be part of a group that challenges you and stretches who you are and how you define yourself.
- Find a mentor or coach. Get close with someone you can learn from. What area do you need help in—health, finances, leadership, parenting or marriage. Choose someone who can help you step up to a higher level.
- Be creative. Make a creative space in your life for writing, art and music. It’s a right brain activity that pulls you away from the analytical, busy left side of the brain. Doing creative activities will help reduce stress in your life and bring calm to your mind.
- Exercise. Your body was made by God for motion. If you need strength, stamina and endurance you have to make demands on your body to get there.
- Choose to be happy. Happiness doesn’t come find you. You must choose it. Sometimes you must fight for it too. Don’t settle for anything less than God given joyful living.
- Rest. Downtime. Sabbath. Honor the sabbath time. Jewish tradition taught women to double up the day before so they could rest on the sabbath. It’s not a bad concept and God approved. Make a set time to chill every week.
